Survey Results Show U.S. Physicians have Significant Interest in Live Video Details with Pharmaceutical Company Sales Representatives

Montreal, November 15, 2007 - According to results from an independent survey of U.S. physicians, 83 percent of the nation’s physicians are interested in live video details over the Internet with pharmaceutical sales reps. This high interest provides a new physician access channel for pharmaceutical company representatives to offer education and services to U.S. physicians.

The 4,004 surveyed physicians also indicated that their greatest participation would be outside of office hours and from their home. This convenient time frame and venue provides a relaxed environment for physicians to interact with representatives and discuss complex science education. Additional highlights from the physician survey include:

  • More than 96 percent said they like the live video meeting format for its convenience and the quality of the interactions with sales reps.
  • Nearly 92 percent said live video detailing with pharmaceutical company sales representatives increased their knowledge of products or disease states, with 23 percent responding that live video detailing increased their knowledge “substantially.”
  • Reasons most often cited for interest in live video detailing were access at “hours convenient to me” (70 percent), “like the interaction” (67 percent), “can ask questions” (53 percent), and “can get needed information more quickly” (52 percent).
  • Nearly 76 percent rated the online interaction “significantly superior” or “superior” compared to traditional office calls.

“Our progress in penetrating the pharmaceutical sales market was a major contributor to record revenue growth and continued upward momentum in gross profits during the quarter,” said Denis Martineau, CEO of Aptilon Corporation. “A key achievement in the quarter was the renewal of our agreement with Merck & Co. to include our internet-based AxcelRxSM Live video detailing service, a system that enables reps to have live online discussions with physicians. We expect to gain sales traction with additional pharmaceutical companies, as we continue to build awareness of our ability to increase the effectiveness of their sales teams.”

Financial Review

The survey period ran for six months, concluding in May 2007. Physicians were independently recruited to take part in the survey within 24 hours after participating in a live video detail with any one of several pharmaceutical companies’ representatives. “The insights we’ve gained from independently surveying thousands of participating physicians, validate that Aptilon is providing a unique and effective way for pharmaceutical marketers to access physicians throughout the U.S. ” said Denis Martineau, CEO of Aptilon Corporation (TSX.V: APZ), a leading provider of physician access through its innovative alternative sales and marketing channel. “The new alternative sales and marketing channel provides significant strategic options for companies to build a ‘Sales Force of the Future’, complementing traditional field sales forces.”

Pharmaceutical companies use Aptilon’s Internet-based, AxcelRxSM Live video detailing service to reach and educate physicians nationwide about their respective products and services. Aptilon’s current rep-physician interactions are averaging more than eight minutes for primary care physicians and fifteen minutes for specialists, achieving high levels of physician satisfaction. In many instances, AxcelRx Live video detailing is the only way for healthcare marketers to have meaningful dialogues with physicians who are classified as “no see” or “hard-to-see” due to their resistance to meeting with reps during traditional office hours.

Aptilon has successfully facilitated large numbers of rep-physician interactions for leading pharmaceutical companies, accessing more than 450,000 opted-in physicians through Aptilon’s ReachNet physician access channel, an extensive network of partner and company-owned websites.
